Achaemenes

An update from the adopter, Robb Mossy:

This may sound like a cheesy horse movie script- but Achaemenes saved my life. When Achaemenes, now named Kenny and I found each other, I was at a crossroads in life. I was at a point where I was trying to find something that I was truly passionate about and something that gave me a purpose in life. Kenny has been with me at every crossroads since, from when my dad passed away to when I was deciding what career I wanted to pursue.

One of the last conversations I had with my dad before he passed was also the only time he met Kenny. I remember my dad checking him out from head to toe. He told me that Kenny was “a good one” and that I needed to hang onto him, which was high praise. Every time I get on Kenny, he confirms that statement.

During Achaemenes’ racing career he earned over $180,000 over his 23 starts. He was even nominated for the Triple Crown in 2011. He had an incredible career in racing. When he was ready to move onto his next career, Galloping Out took him in to help find him his next home.

We started our journey together as two very green individuals. I remember going to see him for the first time and being a shy kid who was nervous about taking on a new project. I had an incredible trainer at the time who told me if I wanted to start my journey into the world of eventing, this was the perfect horse for me. She could see just how much potential he had.

We have come a very long way together, from my first green-bean working student job, to moving our whole life to Virginia to work for an upper-level eventer, to moving back to our hometown to become head groom and manager-in-training at the barn we built our roots at. We have been through everything together and I could not imagine my life without him.

Achaemenes is a sassy, smart, athletic, and opinionated horse. He has a heart of gold and tries his heart out at everything I present him to. Kenny has taught me to be persistent but also patient. He taught me how to be a good horseman.

I cannot thank Galloping Out enough for bringing my boy and I together.
